    Attic insulation in Jacksonville

Why an AC Company Does Attic Insulation

In most Jacksonville homes the air handler and the ducts are in the attic. On a summer afternoon that attic is far hotter than the house, and the insulation on the attic floor is what keeps that heat out of the rooms below. When it is thin or packed down, the AC runs longer to keep up.

We are in attics on most of our jobs, so we can tell you how much insulation you have and whether more is worth it. If it is, we blow it in.

    • Blown‑in insulation, added over what you have
    • The price before we start. Financing available
    • No spray foam. We tell you when you already have enough

    Signs you could use more

Does Your Attic Need More Insulation?

You can check most of these from the attic hatch with a flashlight.

Rooms under the attic run hot

Bedrooms and hallways under the attic are warmer than the rest of the house in the afternoon, and the AC runs long to catch up.

    You can see the joists

If the tops of the ceiling joists show above the insulation, the layer is thinner than the joists are deep.

It is packed down or patchy

Insulation gets crushed and pushed aside by past work in the attic: AC changeouts, wiring, roof repairs. The gaps are where heat gets through.

    Nobody has looked in years

If you don’t know how deep yours is, that is the first thing we measure.

    How it works

    How a Blown‑In Job Goes

    1. We look first

How deep the insulation is now, whether it is dry, the ducts and the air handler, and anything the new layer would bury.

    2. You get the price

The price for the whole job before any work starts. Financing is available.

    3. We blow it in

An even layer over the attic floor to the depth we agreed, kept clear of the soffit vents. We check the depth and clean up.

    How much is enough

What R‑Value a Jacksonville Attic Needs

R‑value measures how well insulation slows heat. Jacksonville is in climate zone 2. For homes there, ENERGY STAR recommends:

R‑38when the attic already has 3 to 4 inches
    R‑49when the attic has none

    JEA attic insulation rebate

JEA has run a rebate for residential electric customers who add attic insulation. As JEA describes it, it pays $0.20 per square foot, up to $200, for attics with less than R‑15 (about 5 inches) that are brought up to R‑38. The rebate is applied through a JEA pre‑qualified contractor.

The terms and deadlines change with JEA’s program year. Check JEA’s page before you plan around it. We don’t promise rebates.

    Attic insulation FAQ

    Questions About Attic Insulation

    Straight answers, no jargon.

How much does attic insulation cost in Jacksonville?

It depends on the size of the attic, how much insulation is up there now, how deep it needs to go and how easy the attic is to work in. We look first and give you the price before we start. Financing is available.

Can I get a JEA rebate for attic insulation?

JEA has run an attic insulation rebate for its residential electric customers. As JEA describes it, it pays $0.20 per square foot, up to $200, for attics with less than R‑15 (about 5 inches) of insulation that are brought up to R‑38, and it is applied through a JEA pre‑qualified contractor. The terms and deadlines change with JEA’s program year, so check JEA’s attic insulation rebate page before you count on it. We don’t promise rebates.

Will more insulation lower my power bill?

It cuts the heat that comes down into the house from the attic, so the AC has less to remove. How much that saves depends on how much insulation you have now, so we won’t quote you a number. If your attic already has a full layer, more won’t change much, and we’ll tell you that.

What R‑value should a Jacksonville attic have?

Jacksonville is in climate zone 2. ENERGY STAR recommends R‑38 when you are adding to an attic that already has 3 to 4 inches, and R‑49 when the attic has none. JEA’s rebate also uses R‑38 as its target. We measure what you have before we say how much to add.

Can you add insulation on top of what I already have?

Usually, yes. If the old insulation is dry and in fair shape, we blow the new layer over it. If part of it is wet, moldy or damaged by pests, the cause needs fixing first, and we’ll show you what we found.

Is blown‑in insulation better than batts?

For adding to an existing attic, blown‑in is the usual choice. It fills around joists, wiring and ducts in one even layer. Batts have to be cut to fit around those, which leaves gaps.

    Do you install spray foam?

No. We install blown‑in insulation only.

Why does an AC company do insulation?

Because in most Jacksonville homes the air handler and ducts are in the attic, and we are up there on most jobs. The insulation on the attic floor decides how much attic heat reaches the rooms the AC is cooling.
