The back room is always the wrong temperature.+
In a bungalow that room is nearly always an addition, and additions here were rarely given anything of their own. It is on the end of a duct run that was short to begin with, through a wall that may have been an exterior one. Measuring what reaches it usually ends the guessing in ten minutes.
The whole house is one temperature and it is the wrong one.+
A small open plan with one return behaves like a single room, so there is very little the system can do selectively. That is not a fault; it is the house. Where it matters, the fix is usually a second zone or a head in the room that differs most, not a bigger machine.
The attic is too shallow to get into. Is that a problem?+
It limits what can be done up there, which matters because in a house this size the attic is the only route duct has. It is the first thing we look at, because it decides whether the honest answer involves duct at all.
Is there even space for a modern system in a house this small?+
Usually, though not always where the old one was. Equipment has changed shape as much as it has changed efficiency, and a slimmer or horizontal cabinet frequently fits where the original will not. We measure the space before quoting rather than discovering it on the day.
